I am trying to read some French texts and every few days I come across a new name for 'a pill'. What is the difference between la pilule, le comprimé and le cachet? Do they all mean the same or different things?

They all mean more or less the same thing, that's just a matter of size or conception, but if you replace one by another, a French speaker would understand anyway. You can have the details on this article if you want https://www.lefigaro.fr/langue-francaise/expressions-francaises/2018/03/18/37003-20180318ARTFIG00005-pilule-capsule-gelule-ne-faites-plus-la-faute.php
