Many say both because... languages!

But only I'm well is the correct one when asked "How are you?" because "well" goes with verbs to change them and give them information. "Good" on the other hand describes you as individual.

I'm good sounds like you're a good person. Nonetheless you will see people saying "I'm good" despite it being not correct.
