Cíao 😀 when you should use an indeterminate article instead of a determinative article is pretty much like English. The confusion occurs when you see Italians not using the article when in English you would and viceversa. For example when we have a possessive pronoun we always use the determinative article before (contrary to English).

When we have plurals, things are pretty strange because sometimes we use them but sometimes we don't. Sometimes we use dei, delle, degli that both means of the and some.

Ho bisogno di soldi. (you don't say ho bisogno degli. Sometimes you say ho bisogno dei soldi). I need money

Voglio delle pizze (you don't say voglio le pizze). I want some pizzas.

Ho comprato i regali. I bought the presents.

Generally you use the article in the plural when it's something specific.
