Amer - is it bitter or sour?

Hi, I came across a few different translations of the word amer and I am not sure which one is correct. Some dictionaries say it is bitter or bitter-tasting, others say it is sour. Which translation of amer is correct?

Hi, bitter is better for "amer" Sour is "aigre", "acide"
